We are delighted to announce key developments that will accommodate and enhance our rapid growth. Vijay Viswanathan and James Dawson will join the company in our San Francisco headquarters, bringing with them a wealth of experience from the automotive and navigational technology fields. Additionally, we’re expanding into the heart of the Silicon Valley with a new office in Palo Alto that will leverage the area’s diverse high-technology talent pool. This news follows a very successful 2017 and Q1 2018 for the company on the customer, partner, and technology front, including the recent unveiling of our game-changing Fingerprint Base Map™ technology for scalable and precise autonomous vehicle localization and navigation (learn more here).
Welcoming Vijay and James
Vijay’s and James’ expertise will help Civil Maps further its mission of enabling safe, ubiquitous autonomous driving through Cognition for Cars. More specifically, they will advance our unique, lightweight approach to precisely localizing vehicles in six degrees of freedom (6DoF) and to crowdsourcing highly scalable HD Semantic Maps for self-driving cars. Combined, these technologies provide vehicles with the upfront environmental data needed to tackle navigation in the safest, most efficient way possible.
Vice President Vijay Viswanathan will lead Product Management across our offices in North America and Asia. Prior to joining the company, Vijay held executive, engineering, and product roles at a number of mobility and technology companies. Most recently, at Telenav, he delivered connected-car solutions to automotive OEMs in more than 110 countries. Prior to Telenav, Vijay worked at Oracle, PreludeSys, Xploora, and Vitria. James Dawson joins as Managing Director of Customer Solutions to augment our business development efforts. James brings more than 20 years of experience in the automotive space, with a specialty in vehicle connectivity solutions. In his most recent role, James oversaw connected-car strategy at Cisco Jasper, growing the automotive practice from two to 26 OEMs across a dozen countries. Prior to Cisco Jasper, James worked at Agero, Aeris Communications, and DENSO in various product, technical, and business development roles.
Silicon Valley Expansion
The addition of Vijay and James supports our expansion into the heart of the Silicon Valley with the new office in Palo Alto. This location will provide direct access to our expanding customer base and closer proximity to automotive OEM R&D labs. Nurturing these foundational connections, and establishing new ones, particularly with Silicon Valley’s diverse high-technology talent pool, is another benefit of Civil Maps’ exciting growth.
